Siemens Energy, Techint awarded EPC deal for Mexico clean methanol project | Hydrogen News

Transition Industries has contracted Siemens Energy and Techint E&C as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) providers for its $3.3bn green and blue hydrogen-based e-methanol project in Sinaloa, Mexico.

After inking a definitive agreement, the pair will install a 210MW electrolyser plant from Siemens Energy at the Pacifico Mexinol project in early 2027.

They have been engineering the system since being first contracted in 2025.

Hydrogen produced by the electrolyser unit will be used as feedstock for 350,000 tonnes of e-methanol per year.

Alongside the green hydrogen-based methanol, the project is set to produce up to 1.8 million tonnes of blue methanol through 160 million cubic feet of US natural gas per day, and methane reforming paired with carbon capture.

Mexinol broke ground in April on the project, with operations set to begin in 2030.

Half of its output has already been reserved by Japan’s Mitsubishi Gas Chemical under a 2025 long-term offtake deal.

While customers for the remaining offtake are yet to be announced, Transition has previously billed the project as “well positioned” to meet emerging demand across the Pacific.

Clean methanol is gaining traction worldwide as industries increasingly consider it as a clean alternative fuel and chemical feedstock.

European Energy, which also operates one of the world’s largest operational e-methanol plants in Denmark, recently revealed plans for a new 48,000 tonne per year plant in Canada.
