Ocior Bags Green Hydrogen Contract for HPCL Refinery |

Ocior Energy bagged a significant bid to supply 5,000 tons of green hydrogen annually to Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited’s (HPCL) refinery in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The project, priced at ₹328 per kg, will be executed on a build, own, and operate (BOO) model for a period of 25 years.

HPCL Advances Energy Transition with Green Hydrogen Integration

The initiative marks a bold step by HPCL toward replacing grey hydrogen with greener alternatives, aligning with India’s broader decarbonization goals. By integrating green hydrogen into its refining operations, HPCL reinforces its commitment to sustainable energy practices and environmental stewardship. Under the agreement, Ocior Energy will be responsible for setting up the green hydrogen production unit and seamlessly integrating it with HPCL’s existing refinery infrastructure.

A Milestone for India’s Green Hydrogen Roadmap

The project signifies a growing momentum in India’s green hydrogen space, following similar moves in the sector—such as L&T Energy Green Tech Ltd’s project at IOCL’s Panipat refinery. These developments reflect the industry’s shift toward low-carbon fuels and the increasing commercial viability of hydrogen as a clean energy source. Green hydrogen significantly reduces carbon emissions. It is a critical component of India’s energy transition strategy and net-zero ambitions.

Ocior Energy Strengthens Its Position in Renewable Energy

Ocior Energy has a proven track record in green hydrogen and green ammonia projects. It brings extensive technical expertise and operational experience. Its success in securing this contract further establishes its role as a key enabler in India’s renewable energy transformation. “This project reinforces our commitment to delivering clean energy solutions,” a company statement mentioned. “It also reflects our focus on building long-term partnerships for sustainable development.”

Setting the Pace for Regional Sustainability

The collaboration between Ocior Energy and HPCL sets a positive precedent for future public-private partnerships in the renewable sector. Strategically located, the Visakhapatnam refinery project supports India’s domestic energy goals. It also has the potential to become a replicable model for hydrogen adoption across other refineries in the region.

As reported by advanceh2.com, India is accelerating its focus on clean energy. Such initiatives highlight the vital role of innovation. Both forward-looking companies and progressive public sector enterprises are key to building a greener, more resilient energy future.
