Natural Hydrogen – FDE validates its mega-deposit in Lorraine, targeting production by end-2028
The independent energy producer reports record hydrogen concentrations (up to 49.6%) in its deep drilling well in Moselle, pushing the project into its industrial phase.
La Française de l’Energie (FDE) has just cleared a decisive milestone in the race for white hydrogen. The energy group published in situ results from its PTH-2 well (Moselle), the deepest in the world dedicated to this resource (3,655 meters). The analyses confirm exceptional levels of dissolved hydrogen that increase with depth, reaching 36.1% at 2,242 meters and a record 49.6% at 2,426 meters.
From a financial and operational standpoint, the announcement underscores the economic appeal of the resource and FDE’s proprietary technology (the SYSMOG probe). The group therefore sharply reduces the geological risk profile of its “Trois Evêchés” permit, which covers more than 2,200 km².
FDE has already teamed up with Teréga Solutions to study the feasibility of production infrastructure. The group plans flow-rate measurements in the second half of 2026, independent certification of reserves in 2027, and is targeting commercial production by end-2028 or early 2029. That would position FDE as a pioneer in a sector seen as critical to European energy sovereignty.
