Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) hosted a one-day Hydrogen Startup Exhibition aimed at promoting India’s growing hydrogen startup ecosystem and advancing innovation across the green hydrogen value chain.
The exhibition featured 18 startups working across key segments, including electrolyser technologies, fuel cell applications, biomass-to-hydrogen production, and digital solutions for hydrogen systems. The event provided a platform for startups to showcase their technologies and engage with stakeholders from government, industry, and the research community.
According to data from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), India had 249 hydrogen-focused startups as of September 2025, reflecting the sector’s rapid growth.
The participating startups represented a diverse range of technologies, including five electrolyser developers, hydrogen production companies, fuel cell and application-focused firms, safety solution providers, drone-based innovations, hydrogen cooking solutions, AI/ML-based platforms, and bio-hydrogen initiatives.
The event was attended by key dignitaries, including Ajay Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, along with MNRE Secretary Santosh Sarangi, Scientific Secretary Dr. Parvinder Maini, and National Green Hydrogen Mission Director Abhay Bakre, who interacted with startup founders and reviewed their innovations.
MNRE highlighted its ongoing efforts to support the sector through the scheme for New and Novel Uses of Hydrogen Production and Applications, which earmarks ₹100 crore for startup funding under pilot projects, with a maximum grant of ₹5 crore per startup.
Following the scheme launch, National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) issued a call for proposals in September 2025, receiving 111 applications. Of these, 58 startups were shortlisted for presentations before the Project Appraisal Committee, with results expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The ministry noted that the exhibition builds on its earlier hydrogen startup expo held in September 2025 at Dr. Ambedkar Centre in New Delhi, and reflects continued efforts to foster innovation, collaboration, and investment in India’s emerging green hydrogen ecosystem.
