Jakarta: Indonesia has launched plans to develop a 194-kilometre Green Hydrogen Corridor linking Jakarta, Karawang and Patimban as part of its strategy to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy and strengthen energy security.
The initiative, unveiled at the 2026 Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit (GHES), aims to create an integrated hydrogen supply chain connecting green hydrogen production plants, hydrogen refuelling stations, industrial zones, logistics networks, ports and end users, Antara News reported.

“The Green Hydrogen Corridor is not the final destination. It is the foundation for establishing a national hydrogen corridor network,” said Prahoro Nurtjahyo, Head of the Human Resources Development Agency at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).
The corridor has been designed based on technical, economic and logistical assessments, with 12 potential sites identified for phased development.
The first phase will focus on installing on-site hydrogen refuelling stations equipped with Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzers, each capable of producing 100 kilograms of green hydrogen per day.
State-owned utility PT PLN has already established a Green Hydrogen Plant and a hydrogen refuelling station at Muara Karang, while additional stations are being developed in Senayan and Duren Tiga to serve the Jakarta metropolitan area.
Meanwhile, PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) is building a hydrogen refuelling station in Karawang to support hydrogen-powered vehicle trials. Patimban Greenport and Toyota Tsusho are also collaborating under the “Eastern GX Corridor” initiative to integrate sustainable port logistics into the project.
The launch of the corridor coincided with the introduction of a Hydrogen Diesel Dual Fuel (H2 DDF) pilot bus project, supporting Indonesia’s clean transportation ambitions.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said hydrogen would play a key role in improving Indonesia’s energy security amid geopolitical uncertainties affecting global fuel supplies.
He said the development of a domestic hydrogen ecosystem would support the country’s goals of achieving energy self-sufficiency, promoting industrial development and advancing long-term decarbonisation.
