India’s green hydrogen industry is expanding its presence in international clean-energy markets, with companies signing supply agreements covering more than 5.55 lakh tonnes per annum of green hydrogen equivalent.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy reported on October 29 that Indian companies had signed 23 offtake contracts since the National Green Hydrogen Mission was launched in 2023. These commitments total 5,55,610 MTPA as of October 2026.
A significant part of the agreements is directed towards international markets. More than 70% of the contracted volumes have been earmarked for exports, reflecting growing interest in Indian green hydrogen and its derivatives.
During 2026 alone, Indian companies signed 18 new offtake agreements covering more than 4 lakh MTPA of green hydrogen equivalent.
The projects associated with these commitments are expected to attract investments exceeding ₹90,000 crore, approximately US$9.5 billion. This is an estimated investment requirement linked to fulfilling the agreements, not money already invested or spent.
The agreements cover green hydrogen as well as derivatives such as green ammonia and green methanol, which can support industrial decarbonisation and cleaner energy supply chains.
