India and Denmark Discuss Renewable Energy Cooperation at Bharat RE Summit

New Delhi, Nov 04: Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi on Tuesday held a bilateral meeting with Denmark’s Minister for Business and Competitiveness Martin Lidegaard on the sidelines of the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit 2026.

In a post on social media platform X, Joshi said the two sides discussed strengthening India-Denmark cooperation in offshore wind, green hydrogen, battery storage and renewable energy integration.

The minister highlighted the significant investment opportunities in India’s renewable energy sector and welcomed greater Danish participation through technology partnerships, joint ventures and local manufacturing. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership and expanding cooperation in clean energy.

Denmark Sees Opportunities in Maharashtra

Lidegaard also visited Mumbai on Monday to advance cooperation in maritime affairs, green shipping, technology, trade and investment. He highlighted the economic opportunities between Denmark and Maharashtra, noting that more than 60 Danish companies are already operating in the state.

He expressed confidence that commercial opportunities could expand further with the proposed EU-India Free Trade Agreement. Lidegaard also referred to Danish shipping major Maersk’s presence in India’s maritime sector and said he had visited its terminal in Mumbai.

During his visit, Lidegaard met Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma to discuss Danish investments, the EU-India FTA and growing economic opportunities in maritime infrastructure and other sectors.

Focus on Green Shipping and Port Infrastructure

Lidegaard was also scheduled to visit APM Terminals Mumbai, also known as Gateway Terminals India, at Jawaharlal Nehru Port. The terminal is operated by APM Terminals, part of the Danish Maersk Group.

Discussions focused on port operations, infrastructure development and opportunities to improve efficiency and sustainability through green technologies and infrastructure investment. The engagement also explored ways to strengthen India-Denmark maritime collaboration and attract further investment into India’s maritime sector.

Separately, Larsen & Toubro Chairman S. N. Subrahmanyan has been appointed Denmark’s Honorary Consul, reflecting another dimension of business engagement between the two countries.

Danish Investments Expand in India’s Green Economy

Recent investments by Danish-linked companies and institutions highlight the expanding commercial relationship between India and Denmark.

In September 2026, Novonesis announced a $600 million investment to expand its plant in Patalganga. In October 2026, Impact Fund Denmark announced an investment of DKK 230 million in GreenCell Mobility, one of India’s leading electric bus companies.

The discussions at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit 2026 underline the expanding scope of the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership. With cooperation spanning renewable energy, offshore wind, green hydrogen, battery storage, shipping and port infrastructure, both countries are exploring opportunities to deepen technology collaboration and investment in India’s clean energy transition.
