GSFC seeks JV partner for 500,000-tonne green ammonia plant in Gujarat, targets 2030 commissioning

Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals (GSFC) is looking for a joint venture (JV) partner to develop a green ammonia plant with an annual production capacity of at least 500,000 tonnes at its Sikka complex in Jamnagar, Gujarat, as the company looks to tap growing demand for low-carbon fertilisers and supplies to overseas markets, Renewable Watch reported.

The proposed facility is targeted for commissioning before December 2030. GSFC is seeking participation from Indian and international investors, strategic partners and consortiums to develop and operate the project.

The plant will cater to domestic fertiliser requirements as well as export markets, with Europe, Japan and South Korea identified as key destinations.

The project is expected to require 2-3 GW of solar and wind power to produce approximately 90,000-100,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. The hydrogen will serve as the feedstock for green ammonia production.

GSFC plans to market around 90 per cent of the plant’s output to domestic and international customers, while the remaining 10 per cent will be used in its own fertiliser operations.

Under the proposed JV arrangement, GSFC may hold up to 51 per cent equity in the project. The final ownership structure will be determined through discussions with prospective partners.

The company is seeking a partner to support the development and operation of the proposed facility.
