All 100MW of electrolysers have been delivered to the Hamburg Green Hydrogen Hub (HGHH) in Germany, as it targets operation in 2027.
Siemens Energy announced the delivery of the final PEM electrolyser unit to the former coal-fired power plant site in Moorburg.
Once online, the plant aims to produce 10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year for industrial end-users and feed into a 40km regional hydrogen pipeline.
Run by a consortium including Luxcara and Hamburger Energiewerke, the project is a recognised Project of European Common Interest and broke ground in late 2025.
Siemens Energy was selected to supply the project in September 2024, after landing a contract for EWE’s 280MW project in Emden. The firm has been producing PEM electrolysers through its joint manufacturing venture with industrial gas firm Air Liquide since its Berlin factory opened in 2023.
The Hamburg Hydrogen Industry Network (HH-WIN) pipeline, which will carry HGHH volumes, recently began construction of its H2 Connector to link the network to Germany’s 9,000km hydrogen backbone,
The HGHH progress adds to Germany’s increasing green hydrogen capacity.
Despite 1.3GW of projects in the country having reached final investment decisions, the lobby group, the Germany Association of Energy and Water Industries, recently said the country’s electrolysis capacity is “stagnating,” with almost 12GW of projects remaining pre-FID.
