Vineet Mittal, Chairman, Avaada Group, identified Odisha’s industrial base and ports at Gopalpur, Paradip and Dhamra as key advantages for developing a green energy ecosystem.

Avaada Group is planning to set up a 1,500-tonnes-per-day green ammonia facility at Gopalpur in Odisha, as it looks to expand its clean energy presence in the state.

Speaking at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026, Vineet Mittal, Chairman, Avaada Group, said Odisha could emerge as a major green industrial hub by integrating renewable energy, pumped storage, green hydrogen and port infrastructure.

“Odisha has spent generations helping build India’s industrial strength through its iron ore, coal, bauxite and other mineral resources. The next opportunity is even greater. Odisha can move from supplying the raw materials of industrialisation to producing the green fuels and materials that will power the global economy,” Mittal said.

Highlighting the importance of reliable renewable power for energy-intensive industries, he said solar and wind generation must be supported by battery energy storage systems and pumped storage hydropower.

“The sun may set, but industry cannot. Steel plants, aluminium smelters and other continuous-process industries need dependable electricity every hour of the day. Batteries and pumped storage will be critical to making renewable power reliable enough to support large-scale industrial decarbonisation,” he said.

Mittal identified Odisha’s industrial base and ports at Gopalpur, Paradip and Dhamra as key advantages for developing a green energy ecosystem. He highlighted Avaada Group’s proposed 1,500-tonnes-per-day green ammonia facility at Gopalpur as a reflection of the company’s confidence in the state’s industrial potential.

“Green hydrogen, green ammonia and green methanol are not merely alternative fuels. They are building blocks for the next generation of industrial manufacturing. Odisha has the opportunity to connect competitive renewable electricity with domestic industrial demand and global export markets,” Mittal said.

He also recommended coordinated approvals and clearly defined commissioning milestones to improve investment certainty.
