Odisha Clean Energy Investment Proposals Hit Rs 1.17 Lakh Crore

Odisha has received clean energy investment proposals worth Rs 1.17 lakh crore through 18 memoranda of understanding signed at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026 in New Delhi, with the projects envisaging 11,742 MW of additional capacity across renewable power, storage and emerging energy technologies.

The proposed capacity is more than twice Odisha’s current renewable energy capacity of 3,691 MW, according to the state government. The proposals cover pumped storage, solar and wind power, hybrid renewable energy, battery storage, green hydrogen, green data centres and other clean-energy technologies.

The MoUs were signed after Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi and deputy chief minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo inaugurated the state pavilion at the summit. Gridco managing director Satya Priya Rath exchanged the agreements with industry representatives. The state government said more than 900 delegates attended an Odisha plenary focused on investment opportunities in the renewable energy sector.

Companies that signed MoUs with the state energy department included Hinduja Renewables Energy Pvt Ltd, Re New Green, Shivalaya Construction Ltd, Suzlon Renewable Development Ltd, Megha Mani Renew Energy Pvt Ltd, Evergreen Renewables Pvt Ltd, Datta Power Infra Pvt Ltd, CD Hydro, GSP Infra, Virudhaka Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd, MACLEC Technical Project Laboratory Pvt Ltd, Fenice Hydrogen, Ravi Renewables Pvt Ltd and XPERTNEST. An MoU was also signed with the India Energy Storage Alliance.

Gridco separately signed agreements with the Centre for Mission on Energy Transition at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd and IIT Bhubaneswar. These agreements are intended to support renewable energy integration, grid modernisation, research and emerging power-system technologies.

Union new and renewable energy minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted opportunities in Odisha in renewable energy, energy storage, floating solar, wind power, green hydrogen and green ammonia. Chief minister Majhi said the state aims to source 74% of its installed power capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2047 and meet at least 33% of industrial electricity consumption through green power.

Majhi said Odisha was focusing on a stable policy framework, time-bound clearances through a single-window mechanism and the expansion of transmission infrastructure. The state government has sanctioned Rs 15,948 crore under the Mukhya Mantri Shakti Bikash Yojana for modernising and expanding the power transmission network.

Singh Deo said Odisha met a peak electricity demand of around 6,242 MW during the summer without scheduled load shedding. He also cited the state’s potential for pumped storage, floating solar and wind energy, along with plans for green hydrogen and ammonia hubs at Gopalpur and Paradip.

Union renewable energy secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi said Odisha has set a target of reaching 10.96 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 under the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy, 2022. The latest agreements are proposals and will require subsequent steps for project development, clearances, financing and implementation.
