Lucknow University signs Indo-Nordic pact to establish green hydrogen centre

The University of Lucknow, Bharat Norden Regional Consortium (BNORC), Norway-based Samband AS and India’s Lakshya Foundation have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish the Panchtatva Circular Bioeconomy-Green Hydrogen Centre of Excellence (PCB-GH₂ CoE) and a demonstration platform, The Times of India reported.

The initiative aims to transform the traditional gaushala ecosystem into a source of rural economic development, environmental protection and technological innovation by processing cattle dung, biomass and organic waste.

Under the proposed initiative, these resources will be processed using the five elements of Panchtatva — Prithvi, Jal, Agni, Vayu and Akash — to produce green hydrogen, biogas, biofertilisers, recovered water and other resources.

The collaboration will bring together technologies and expertise from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Denmark with Indian research, indigenous knowledge and implementation capabilities.

The partners also plan to collaborate academically with the University of Agder, Norway, to promote international training, researcher exchanges, capacity building and industry-ready skills.

The project is aligned with BNORC’s Mission Zero vision of zero waste, zero pollution and sustainable livelihoods. The stakeholders said it could help position Uttar Pradesh as a contributor to India’s green transition.
