GreenH has secured approximately NOK 600 million in support from the EU Innovation Fund for a new hydrogen hub in Rogaland, according to the source article. The funding enables the company to proceed with its planned hydrogen plant in the region, with operations targeted to begin around 2030.

Project specifications and offtake

The facility is designed with an electrolysis capacity of 12.5 MW and an expected daily output of about five tonnes of green hydrogen, with room for future capacity expansion. The hydrogen produced will serve maritime transport, local industry, and heavy transport in the area. The site was selected due to its proximity to the main coastal shipping route, which makes it suitable for bunkering offshore vessels and other maritime traffic.

Company perspective

GreenH CEO Morten Solberg Watle described the funding as a significant milestone for the company and for Norway’s green maritime infrastructure. He noted that the financial support reduces project risk and allows the firm to advance its Rogaland hub plans, aiming for a start of operations around 2030.

National network ambitions

The Rogaland project is part of GreenH’s broader initiative to develop hydrogen infrastructure along the Norwegian coast. Combined with the company’s other projects in Slagentangen, Kristiansund, Sandnessjøen, Bodø, and Hammerfest, the new facility is intended to contribute to a network supporting zero-emission shipping. Watle also commented that meeting stricter zero-emission requirements for offshore vessels and other maritime transport will require scaling up hydrogen production and availability in line with demand, and that this project represents a step in that direction.

The project is among those receiving support through an EU hydrogen initiative aimed at accelerating the shift to zero-emission energy and transport.
