JOGMEC Grants Subsidies related to “Support focusing on the price gap” to JERA Co., Inc. : 2025 News Releases

Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (“JOGMEC”) announced that it decided to grant subsidies related to “Support focusing on the price gap” to JERA Co., Inc. (“JERA”) on February 16, 2026. JERA has been certified as a Supplier of Low-Carbon Hydrogen and its Derivatives by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (“METI”).

“Support focusing on the price gap” is a subsidy scheme to cover the price gap between the costs for domestic or overseas hydrogen production and transportation (strike price) and the price of conventional fuels (reference price) to enable a Supplier of Low-Carbon Hydrogen and its Derivatives certified by METI to continuously supply low-carbon hydrogen in accordance with their certified supply plans. This support scheme is established in the Act on Promotion of Supply and Utilization of Low-Carbon Hydrogen and its Derivatives for Smooth Transition to a Decarbonized, Growth-Oriented Economic Structure (“Hydrogen Society Promotion Act”).

JERA_has been certified as a Supplier of Low-Carbon Hydrogen and its Derivatives by METI on December 19, 2025. In this certified supply plan, JERA plans to supply low-carbon ammonia produced in Louisiana, USA, for Hekinan Thermal Power Station, one of Japan’s largest thermal power plants pursuing commercial-scale ammonia substitution, as well as for the fuel of industrial furnace for Toyota Industries Corporation, AGC Inc., NGK INSULATORS, LTD. and AISIN Fukui Corporation.

JOGMEC decided to grant subsidies on 16 February 2026 to JERA following a review of its application submitted in connection with the certified supply plan. JOGMEC will contribute to the realisation of a hydrogen society through “Support focusing on the price gap”.
