Everfuel Secures €244.9M Production Support for Green Hydrogen Project Frigg - News and Statistics

Everfuel A/S has obtained a notification for production support under the European Hydrogen Bank’s Auctions-as-a-Service mechanism for green hydrogen initiatives in Denmark. The subsidy is set at 0.98 EUR per kilogram of hydrogen, totaling 244.9 million EUR, and is allocated for 200 megawatts of electrolyser capacity during the initial stage of Everfuel’s Project Frigg.

Project Frigg represents Everfuel’s envisioned large-scale hydrogen production site at the Revsing Energy Park in Vejen, Denmark. The initiative is structured for incremental expansion toward a maximum of 2 gigawatts of electrolyser capacity, with plans to link to the Danish-German hydrogen backbone and serve industrial clients in Germany.

Jacob Krogsgaard, Founder and CEO of Everfuel, characterized the notification from the European Commission and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy as validation of Project Frigg’s competitiveness and readiness. He also remarked that the advancement of multiple Danish projects is encouraging for building a robust hydrogen sector in Denmark.

Dr. Marc Schurch, a Board member representing Swiss Life Asset Managers as an investor in Everfuel, viewed the notification as a significant milestone for advancing large-scale hydrogen infrastructure across Europe. He emphasized that initiatives like Frigg are essential for facilitating industrial decarbonization.

Everfuel and its collaborators continue to pursue development efforts, contingent on the support scheme’s terms and further project refinement. A critical upcoming target for Project Frigg involves reserving capacity within the Danish hydrogen backbone. Several commercial and regulatory aspects of the capacity booking framework still require clarification and modification to enable a successful reservation in December.

Krogsgaard noted that, despite the encouraging support, the company’s immediate priority is obtaining capacity in the hydrogen pipeline. He pointed out that numerous essential conditions must still be resolved to facilitate pipeline booking, and Everfuel will maintain engagement with relevant authorities while concurrently negotiating with offtakers.
