Dutch e-fuels firm takes FID on 20MW green hydrogen project | Hydrogen News

Hydrogen-based e-fuels developer Power2X has taken final investment decision (FID) on its 20MW green hydrogen plant, expected to produce 2,000 tonnes-per-year (tpa) by mid-2028, after bringing John Cockerill onboard.

Located in Delfzijl, Netherlands, the Djewels project will be developed by Rely – a joint venture (JV) between Technip Energies and John Cockerill – which will also supply the site’s electrolysers.

Initially launched by HyCC, the facility’s original 2024 construction timeline was pushed back following the liquidation of intended electrolyser supplier McPhy.

Power2X acquired HyCC and Djewels earlier this year, while John Cockerill, separately, acquired most of McPhy’s hydrogen assets.

Alongside Djewels, Power2X gained four other projects across the Netherlands and Germany comprising a combined 1GW development pipeline.

Djewels is the first of these to reach FID with the remainder of the HyCC portfolio planning start dates in 2030 and beyond.

Launched in late 2023, Rely aims to provide end-to-end large-scale solutions from pre- FID services including technical and financial advice, through to project execution.

It was commissioned to perform early engineering studies for Hy2gen and H2V’s 300MW hydrogen-based sustainable aviation fuel project in France in October 2025.

Power2x also plans to develop a 500MW facility in Portugal capable of producing up to 500,000tpa of green ammonia.

In July 2025, its Spanish subsidiary ErasmoPower2X secured €246m ($287m) through the country’s national auction scheme for its 55,000tpa green hydrogen plant intended to feed e-methanol production.
