Port of Pecém receives R0 million in investments for energy transition

The Port of Pecém will receive nearly R$700 million in investments for the energy transition, following the approval by Brazil’s Federal Senate of external credit financing for the Industrial and Port Complex of Pecém (CIPP).

The announcement was made by Ceará Governor Elmano de Freitas during the 3rd edition of the Cresce Ceará forum, organized by Diário do Nordeste in partnership with Banco do Nordeste (BNB).

According to the Senate News Agency, on Wednesday (20), two credit operations between the CIPP and the World Bank (IBRD) were authorized, totaling US$123.5 million.

How the funds will be used

In a video posted on Instagram, Senator Camilo Santana said that part of the funds will be allocated to the Pecém Energy Transition Program, aimed at strengthening infrastructure, research, innovation, and workforce training to consolidate the Green Hydrogen production chain.

According to the senator, the sector “could position northeastern Brazil at the global forefront of the clean economy.” The remaining funds are expected to finance the Pecém Verde program, expanding investments in industrial decarbonization, environmental governance, training, and institutional strengthening.

Camilo Santana also highlighted Ceará’s technical and environmental capacity to play a leading role in the transition to clean energy use.

“The whole world is competing for green investments, and Ceará is prepared to lead this process. We have sun, we have wind, we have a strategic location, we have a competitive port, we have technical capacity, and we have hardworking people. And when the Northeast receives investment, Brazil grows,” he said.
