The strategy aims to diversify the Kingdom’s energy mix and reduce carbon emissions, in line with Jordan’s environmental commitments. It also seeks to attract foreign investment in renewable energy and advanced technologies.
Experts have indicated that expanding green hydrogen production could give Jordan the opportunity to become a regional hub for clean energy production and export, especially given its abundant resources such as solar and wind power, which are essential for producing this type of fuel.
The plan also includes improving energy efficiency across various sectors and supporting electricity interconnection projects with neighboring countries. This will enhance grid stability and facilitate regional energy exchange.
This step comes at a time when the world is witnessing a rapid shift towards clean energy, amid increasing pressure to mitigate climate change. This is prompting countries to reformulate their policies to achieve a balance between development and sustainability.
