Spanish companies Acciona and Moeve are making steady progress in developing green hydrogen projects in Morocco. As part of the «Morocco Offer» initiative, they have signed preliminary agreements with the government to secure land for their projects, following the selection of their respective alliances as potential developers. While the projects remain at an early stage, the main challenge now is to turn them into ventures that are both economically and technically viable, according to Spanish media reports.
Moeve is set to partner with Taqa Morocco on a large-scale project to produce green ammonia and industrial fuel at the port of Jorf Lasfar. Under this partnership, Taqa Morocco will supply renewable electricity, while Moeve will be responsible for production and marketing. Given Taqa Morocco’s central role in the national power system, the project is seen as a key step toward accelerating the decarbonization of industry and heavy transport.
At the same time, the ORNX alliance, which includes Acciona, has signed an agreement to secure land in Laayoune for a renewable ammonia project involving substantial investment. This initiative aligns with Morocco’s national strategy to position itself as a regional green hydrogen hub serving both Africa and Europe.
