- Morocco’s ‘Green Hydrogen Offer’
TAQA Morocco and Spanish company Moeve have announced a preliminary agreement with the Moroccan government to reserve land for the development of a large-scale project to produce green ammonia and industrial fuel as part of the North African country’s ‘Green Hydrogen Offer’ initiative.
The project is being carried out thanks to the business cooperation between TAQA Morocco, a subsidiary of the TAQA Group and Morocco’s leading independent electricity producer, which is also listed on the Casablanca Stock Exchange, and Moeve, a leading Spanish company in the energy sector that is also committed to sustainable energy and mobility based on green molecules.
The role of each entity in the business consortium established by both companies will be based on their respective areas of expertise: TAQA Morocco will supply renewable energy to the project, which will be located in the Dakhla region, in what Morocco refers to as its southern provinces claimed within its proposal for an autonomous initiative to finally bring Western Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty, and Moeve will be responsible for the production and marketing of e-fuels in the Port of Jorf Lasfar, located on Morocco’s important Atlantic coast.

This project, selected by the steering committee of ‘Morocco’s Offer’, is now entering a key phase with the launch of feasibility studies.
Abdelmajid Iraqui Houssaini, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of TAQA Morocco, said: ‘This strategic partnership with Moeve will contribute to the decarbonisation of TAQA Morocco’s portfolio and support sustainable mobility through the development of hydrogen-derived products, which are essential for industry and transport.’
‘This agreement is an important step towards large-scale production of green molecules in Morocco. By combining our expertise in sustainable fuels with TAQA Morocco’s strength in renewable energy, we are laying the foundations for a project that will accelerate the decarbonisation of industry and heavy transport,’ said Maarten Wetselaar, CEO of Moeve, according to the Spanish company itself.

Morocco’s ‘Green Hydrogen Offer’
Also known as ‘Morocco’s Offer,’ this is a comprehensive national strategic plan designed to attract international investment to the North African nation and position the country as a leader in the production and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives (ammonia, methanol) by 2030. It offers up to 300,000 hectares of public land and competitive support, integrating the entire value chain, from renewable energy to logistics.
The main objective of the proposal is to promote decarbonisation and achieve climate neutrality. In this case, the Moroccan kingdom aims to have renewable energies represent more than 52% of its installed electricity capacity by 2030 and reach 70% by 2050, and to make green hydrogen an important basis for the national economy.
