The incoming chief executive of big hydro generator Meridian has disclosed for the first time why the gentailer canned its multi-billion dollar plan to build a green hydrogen production plant in Southland.
Successive governments have championed hydrogen as a key energy in decarbonising heavy vehicles, ships and planes. After the Budget, Energy Minister Simon Watts has told an industry conference the Government want to unleash investment in low-emissions hydrogen; his associate minister Shane Jones wants to mine natural hydrogen.
