New high-capacity site in Düsseldorf marks a milestone for zero-emission transport.
H2 Mobility has inaugurated Europe’s most powerful hydrogen refueling station in Düsseldorf, setting a new benchmark for sustainable transport.
Developed in partnership with Rheinbahn and Stadtwerke Düsseldorf, the station delivers up to five tonnes of hydrogen per day and supports simultaneous refuelling for buses, trucks, and passenger cars. The site features next-generation charging technology, including an advanced Autocharge system for seamless plug-and-go refueling.
Initially supplied with certified renewable hydrogen, the station will transition to locally produced green hydrogen in 2026 via a new on-site electrolyser powered by energy from Düsseldorf’s waste-to-energy plant.
“This project demonstrates how collaboration can accelerate innovation and decarbonisation,” said Frank Fronzke, COO of H2 MOBILITY. The station will play a vital role in supporting Rheinbahn’s hydrogen bus fleet and advancing Düsseldorf’s goal of climate neutrality by 2035.
Funded by Germany’s National Innovation Programme for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology, the new station represents a major leap forward in building regional hydrogen ecosystems for heavy-duty and public transport.
