ZFI begins second phase of green hydrogen project in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh

Rampur: Zero Footprint Industries Limited on Monday launched the second phase of its green hydrogen project in Rampur with a groundbreaking ceremony, marking a key step in its expansion plans in the state, The Economic Times reported.

The company has outlined an investment plan of up to Rs 1,100 crore by 2030 as it looks to strengthen its presence in India’s growing green hydrogen sector.

ZFI plans to increase its annual production capacity from 2.5 million cubic metres to 100 million cubic metres by 2030. The company had earlier set up India’s first merchant green hydrogen plant in Rampur in February 2025, with an initial investment of Rs 30 crore. The second phase will involve an additional Rs 50 crore.

The expansion is expected to bring environmental benefits, with the company estimating a reduction in carbon emissions equal to planting nearly 300,000 trees every year.

As part of its growth strategy, ZFI has partnered with Waaree Energy to roll out green hydrogen plants across the country. The collaboration aims to combine renewable energy with hydrogen production to create cost-effective solutions.

The company has also tied up with Vision Mechatronics Pvt Ltd to introduce a green hydrogen-based cooking system for both household and industrial use, which could offer an alternative to conventional fuels.

ZFI is also exploring hydrogen-based transport solutions, including applications for buses, cars, and trucks. It plans to set up on-site green hydrogen projects for industrial users to expand its reach across sectors.

The project supports India’s push for cleaner energy and reduced dependence on fossil fuels. Experts say green hydrogen will play an important role in cutting emissions in sectors that are difficult to shift to cleaner fuels.

The event was attended by Prasad Chaphekar from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Rampur MLA Akash Saxena, Pujan Doshi, and ZFI directors Amit Modi, Anurag Agarwal, and Mallika Modi, along with other officials.
