TUTICORIN : In a significant step toward advancing India’s green energy export ambitions, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA), Tuticorin, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with H2Global, represented by the H2Global Foundation and Hintco GmbH, to explore the development of green hydrogen and clean shipping fuel trade corridors between India and Europe.
With this landmark agreement, VOCPA becomes the first Indian port to establish a strategic partnership with H2Global, a leading European initiative focused on accelerating the global market for renewable hydrogen and its derivatives.
The collaboration aims to facilitate the integration of port infrastructure and logistics systems to support the export of green hydrogen, green ammonia, e-methanol, and other clean energy derivatives from India to Germany and broader European markets. The partnership will also explore innovative mechanisms for clean fuel production, long-term offtake arrangements, and the creation of sustainable maritime fuel ecosystems that align with global decarbonization goals.
The MoU was signed on behalf of VOCPA by Shri A. Ganesan, Chief Mechanical Engineer, while Dr. Maximilian Held, Chief Operating Officer and Head of Solutions Lab & Shipping Initiative at the H2Global Foundation, signed on behalf of H2Global. The signing ceremony was attended virtually by Mr. Timo Bollerhey, Co-Founder of H2Global and CEO of H2Global Holding & Hintco GmbH, Ms. Andrea Helf, Chief Financial Officer, and other senior officials from both organizations.
The partnership is expected to strengthen VOCPA’s position as a future-ready green port and a key gateway for clean energy exports from India. By leveraging its strategic location, modern infrastructure, and growing focus on sustainability, the port is poised to play a crucial role in supporting India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and the country’s transition toward a low-carbon economy.
The agreement also reflects the increasing collaboration between India and Europe in the fields of renewable energy, sustainable shipping, and clean fuel supply chains. As global demand for green hydrogen accelerates, the VOCPA–H2Global partnership is expected to contribute significantly to establishing reliable and scalable green energy trade routes connecting India with international markets.
This strategic initiative underscores VOCPA’s commitment to supporting sustainable maritime development while reinforcing India’s emergence as a major global hub for green hydrogen production and export.
