Uniper has announced today (8 May 2025) that it has selected ITM Power as the electrolyser supplier for its Humber H2ub® (Green) project, at its Killingholme site in the Humber.

This follows a comprehensive tender, evaluation and optimisation exercise in which shortlisted electrolyser suppliers were evaluated for their ability to deliver to the project’s requirements.

The agreement will initially see ITM provide Uniper with the engineering package for 120MW of installed electrolyser capacity, comprising of six 20MW POSEIDON units. Following the engineering phase and a successful Uniper financial decision for the project the full supply agreement will be signed.

Uniper’s plans for the proposed Humber H2ub® (Green) include green hydrogen production capability with an installed electrolyser capacity of 120MW and potential future expansion of a further 200MW+. The hydrogen would be used to replace some refinery fuel gas in industrial scale fired heaters at Phillips 66 Limited’s Humber Refinery as part of their plans to reduce the refinery’s scope 1 operational emissions. The project is targeted to be operational by 2029.

Uniper ran a public consultation on its proposals in November 2024 and in April 2025, the project was announced as one of 27 projects shortlisted in the UK Government’s Hydrogen Allocation Round 2 (HAR2) programme.

This is a key milestone for the project and we are looking forward to working with ITM Power and further developing the engineering for the project built around the ITM Power 20MW POSEIDON modules.

We are delighted that Uniper has selected us for their large-scale green hydrogen project in the UK, which will contribute to the decarbonisation of the Humber Refinery and create skilled job opportunities at Killingholme and the surrounding area.
