Tyczka Hydrogen opens new green hydrogen refueling station

With a ceremonial opening event today, Wednesday, Tyczka Hydrogen has officially commissioned its new hydrogen refueling station at the Port of Schweinfurt. The station represents a key building block of the emerging hydrogen hub of the Tyczka Group in the region and underscores the company’s long-term commitment to scaling up hydrogen mobility and ensuring a sustainable energy supply.

As part of the ceremonial event, Tyczka Hydrogen welcomed guests from politics, business, and society. Among the honored guests were Hubert Aiwanger, Bavaria’s State Minister for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, as well as Ralf Hofmann, Lord Mayor of the City of Schweinfurt. Representatives of partner companies—including the strongly supportive Stadtwerke Schweinfurt—local policymakers, potential users, vehicle manufacturers, project partners, and employees of the Tyczka Group also attended the event.

Festive opening and symbolic first refuelling
The event began with speeches from the Tyczka Group highlighting the strategic importance of the Schweinfurt site for the regional and supraregional hydrogen economy.

Dr. Frank Götzelmann, Spokesperson of the Management Board of the Tyczka Group, said:

Zero-emission mobility needs more alternatives, and our energy system needs additional options to strengthen our resilience.

”Green hydrogen addresses both aspects. With the new hydrogen filling station, the transport industry can hedge against higher diesel prices while simultaneously supporting environmental protection,”

This was followed by the symbolic first refueling of the MAN hTGX, marking the official operational launch of the station. Afterwards, guests took the opportunity to network and exchange expertise. On site, they were able to gather comprehensive information about the applications of hydrogen in mobility. Several different hydrogen vehicles from renowned manufacturers (BMW, Bosch, Keyou, MAN, Quantron, Refire, and hylane), as well as the H2 Genset for mobile power generation using hydrogen fuel cells from SFC Energy, were on display, illustrating the wide range of applications for the technology—from passenger cars to heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

Strong political signal for the hydrogen scale-up
The importance of the new infrastructure for Bavaria and the Schweinfurt region was also underscored in greetings from political representatives.

Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Hubert Aiwanger, emphasizes:

Hydrogen plays a key role in achieving the mobility transition.

” We are consistently advancing the expansion of the infrastructure with filling stations, thereby also contributing to an independent fuel supply. With already three hydrogen filling stations and two planned electrolyzers, Tyczka Hydrogen is assuming an important pioneering role. It is a true lighthouse company for building a high-performance hydrogen infrastructure. Now, more hydrogen vehicles need to get on the road. The new Bavarian funding program for hydrogen commercial vehicles, which supports the acquisition of hydrogen vehicles across all classes, is providing important momentum for this.”

The City of Schweinfurt also regards the commissioning of the hydrogen filling station as an important locational factor for business, logistics, and climate protection, as Lord Mayor Ralf Hofmann, says:

The commissioning of the hydrogen filling station in the Schweinfurt port is a real milestone for our city.

”It shows that we are consistently driving the shift toward climate-friendly mobility and sustainably strengthening Schweinfurt as a modern industrial and logistics location.”

Target group and locational advantage
The hydrogen filling station is primarily geared toward commercial vehicles such as trucks, buses, and municipal and industrial fleets. Thanks to its location in the Schweinfurt port and its excellent connection to key motorway corridors, the site is ideally suited for regional and supraregional heavy-duty transport. This strengthens Schweinfurt’s role as a strategically important transport hub and hydrogen location in central Germany.
Hydrogen-based logistics is currently experiencing strong tailwinds: targeted funding programs from the federal government and the Free State of Bavaria are actively promoting it as a central pillar of a climate-neutral future.

Continuation of a forward-looking project
Back in July 2025, Tyczka Hydrogen ground-breaking ceremony begins construction of the station. The facility now inaugurated is designed for 24/7 operation and can dispense up to 1,000 kilograms of hydrogen per day at 350 and 700 bar. This makes it suitable for all common road vehicles powered by hydrogen, with a particular focus on commercial vehicles such as trucks, buses, and municipal vehicles.

The station is the first visible milestone of a comprehensive hydrogen hub. At the Schweinfurt site, Tyczka Hydrogen is currently building an electrolyzer with a truck loading center to produce green hydrogen directly on site in the future and supply the region. This is being funded with 5 million euros under the BayFELI program by the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy. The close integration of production and distribution makes Schweinfurt a significant hydrogen hub in southern Germany.

Expansion of the hydrogen filling station network
With the commissioning of the Schweinfurt station, Tyczka Hydrogen is now operating its fourth hydrogen filling station—alongside its own site at the Augsburg freight transport center and the stations in Giengen an der Brenz and Hallstadt/Bamberg taken over at the turn of the year—and is consistently advancing the development of a high-performance hydrogen infrastructure for heavy-duty transport.

The tight integration of production and distribution at a single site will make Schweinfurt a major hydrogen hub in the heart of Germany and creates ideal conditions for building a regional hydrogen economy.
