Highlighting the state’s renewable energy achievements, Nath said Tripura has secured the first position among North Eastern states in implementing the PM-KUSUM Scheme
Tripura is positioning itself as a leader in renewable energy in the North East, with plans to develop a Hydrogen Valley Hub for blending and exporting green hydrogen, announced Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath at the Regional Workshop on Renewable Energy in Guwahati on Friday.
Highlighting the state’s renewable energy achievements, Nath said Tripura has secured the first position among North Eastern states in implementing the PM-KUSUM Scheme. The Minister received the prestigious award from Union Minister for Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi during the event.
Tripura has installed 48.53 MW of green energy systems so far, with a target of 500 MW by 2030. Initiatives under schemes like PM-KUSUM, PM-DevINE, PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, Grameen Baazar Alok Jyoti Prakalpa, and solar and bio-gas micro-grids have enhanced energy access in rural areas.Achievements include distribution of 3 lakh study lamps, installation of solar street lights in over 1,000 village markets, 6,051 solar irrigation pumps, and illumination of 289 remote habitations.
The Minister emphasized the need for skilled manpower to support 813.47 MW of renewable energy installations, estimating that 4,234 employment opportunities could be generated by 2030. Nath also highlighted Tripura’s potential for small hydro power projects, for which financial and technical assistance may be sought from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
“Renewable energy initiatives are not only addressing energy demand but also creating socio-economic opportunities for rural and poor communities. We must endorse the use of clean energy in our daily lives,” Nath said.
Officials present at the workshop included Power Secretary Abhishek Singh and TREDA Director General (In-Charge) Debabrata Sukla Das.
