What’s the deal? Thyssengas Holding has secured a €130 million revolving credit facility from KfW IPEX-Bank to fund investments during its transformation phase. The German gas network operator will develop its infrastructure and gradually convert its pipelines to carry hydrogen.
What does Thyssengas do? It operates one of Germany’s largest long-distance gas networks, spanning 4,400 kilometres mainly across North Rhine-Westphalia and parts of Lower Saxony. The company transports around six billion cubic metres of natural gas and biogas each year.
Who’s behind it? Thyssengas is wholly owned by the Macquarie Super Core Infrastructure Fund, managed by Macquarie Asset Management. KfW IPEX-Bank is described as a long-standing banking partner.
Why now? Thyssengas’ network is being prepared for hydrogen transport and is expected to account for more than 12% of Germany’s planned hydrogen core network, connecting to storage sites and cross-border routes through Belgium, the Netherlands and Norway.
