Tree Energy Solutions (TES) and Saibu Gas will promote using electric natural gas from green hydrogen (e-NG) as a clean energy source across Japan.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the two companies have agreed to explore opportunities including a long-term e-NG offtake contract by Saibu gas from TES production projects.
Under this contract, CO2 is captured and combined with green hydrogen to create e-NG that can be used as a drop-in fuel at consumer facilities. The partnership is expected to enable an overseas supply chain for TES and introduce e-NG into the Japanese market, which wants to use the fuel for 90% of its city gas consumption by 2050.
“We acknowledge the profound significance of the Japanese LNG market and its influence both locally and globally,” explained Marco Alverá, CEO and Co-Founder of TES.
“Together with Saibu Gas, we have the opportunity to drive meaningful progress in the transition towards greener alternatives for Japan’s energy sector.”
In June (2024), TES collaborated with Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” LINE) to explore e-NG use in Japanese maritime applications. The e-NG will facilitate the transition to cleaner bunker fuels for “K” LINE’s vessels.

In March (2024), TES formed a global coalition dedicated to raising awareness of e-NG and promoting the trade and use of the fuel.
Engie, Mitsubishi Corporation, Osaka Gas, Sempra Infrastructure, Tokyo Gas, Toho Gas and TotalEnergies all joined TES in the coalition.
