Portugal’s Green Hydrogen Sines project has secured the first commercial order for electrolysers from RCT GH Hydrogen, marking another milestone for the country’s growing hydrogen economy and reinforcing Sines’ position as one of Europe’s leading clean energy hubs.
The Green Hydrogen Sines project, led by Portuguese developer Beyond Green, will deploy a 10 MW pressurised alkaline electrolyser supplied by RCT GH Hydrogen, a joint venture between Germany’s RCT Group and Chinese electrolyser manufacturer Guofu Hydrogen.
The equipment will be manufactured at RCT’s facility in Germany using Guofu-designed technology, with the project expected to produce around 1,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually once operations begin in 2027.
The contract represents the first confirmed commercial order for RCT GH Hydrogen and highlights Portugal’s role as an early adopter of next-generation hydrogen technologies. It also strengthens the strategic importance of Sines Green Hydrogen Valley, one of Europe’s emerging hydrogen clusters.
The wider Sines ecosystem includes Galp’s 100 MW green hydrogen project, expected to become one of the largest in Portugal and among the largest in Europe, alongside several initiatives focused on renewable energy, industrial decarbonisation and clean fuels.
As Europe accelerates investment in green hydrogen, the latest project further reinforces Portugal’s ambition to become a leading destination for clean energy investment, innovation and industrial-scale hydrogen production.
