SIAD invests €12m in 2MW green hydrogen plant in Italy

Italy-headquartered SIAD Group is investing more than €12m ($13.5m) in a renewable hydrogen project at its IGAT facility in Pignataro Maggiore, in the Caserta area, including a new electrolyser alongside an existing air separation unit (ASU).

The project, known as Green Hydrogen IGAT, has a 2MW PEM electrolyser powered by a dedicated 2.37MWp solar installation and a 1MW battery storage system located on-site.

Hydrogen produced by the electrolyser will be purified to 99.999% and compressed to 500 bar before being supplied to customers in the chemical and manufacturing industries via cylinder bundles or tube trailers.

PEM technology allows production to adjust to changes in solar power generation, while the battery system provides additional energy storage at the site.

The project received €8m in funding under Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), following a call for proposals managed by the Campania Region.

SIAD said the investment will provide a platform for further research and trials into hydrogen applications in industrial processes, with potential for future expansion depending on demand.

Bernardo Sestini, Chairman and CEO of the SIAD Group, described Green Hydrogen IGAT as a “visionary industrial project,” adding that it forms part of the group’s wider investment programme in Italy and abroad.
