Launched on January 4, 2023, the National Green Hydrogen Mission is a comprehensive plan by the Indian government with a vision to position the country as a global hub for the production, usage, and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives.
The mission has a total outlay of INR 19,744 crore, which includes INR 17,490 crore for the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) programme, INR 1,466 crore for pilot projects, INR 400 crore for research and development, and INR 388 crore for other components.
The mission targets an ambitious production capacity of 5 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) of green hydrogen by 2030.
SECI – a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise operating under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy – continues to mark significant progress in India’s clean energy journey.
In July, the agency achieved the milestone of executing over 60 Gigawatts (GW) of Power Sale Agreements (PSAs) of Renewable Energy (RE) capacity. The agreements cover a diverse portfolio of solar, wind, and hybrid energy projects, significantly contributing to India’s renewable energy targets.
Commenting on the achievement, Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Chairman and Managing Director of SECI, said, “The signing of 60 GW worth of Power Sale Agreements within just fourteen years of establishment marks a pivotal moment for SECI’s journey.”
“SECI continues to be at the forefront of ensuring that India stays on track to meet its ambitious clean energy targets. We are proud to contribute to the nation’s transition towards a sustainable and low-carbon future,” he added.
Looking ahead, SECI plans to focus on innovative energy storage solutions, strengthening the renewable energy supply chain, advancing the production of green hydrogen and green ammonia, as well as innovative power supply models.
Since its inception in 2011, SECI has been instrumental in launching groundbreaking models such as solar-wind hybrid with or without energy storage, round-the-clock power supply, and firm and dispatchable renewable energy.
