Saudi Arabia’s Neom green hydrogen project has reached a major milestone, with about 90% of construction work now complete across all sites. The Neom Green Hydrogen Company confirmed that the project remains on schedule for completion in 2026, despite global supply chain pressures and rising development costs in the clean energy sector. The first deliveries of green ammonia are expected in early 2027.

The large-scale facility will use 2.2 GW of electrolyzers powered by nearly 4 GW of solar and wind capacity. Once operational, it aims to produce around 600 tonnes of green hydrogen daily, which will be converted into about 1.2 million tonnes of green ammonia each year. Air Products, one of the project’s co-shareholders, has already signed a 30-year exclusive agreement to purchase all ammonia produced, giving the project long-term commercial stability.

Saudi Arabia continues to expand its ambitions in the hydrogen sector, even as global markets face uncertainty. Alongside Neom, the government has announced another major green hydrogen initiative in Yanbu on the Red Sea coast. This new project could include up to 4.4 GW of electrolyzers, strengthening the kingdom’s position as a future global supplier of clean fuels.
