Samsung E&A, a global total solutions provider for the energy industry, unveiled its latest green hydrogen production solution, CompassH2-P, developed in collaboration with Nel Hydrogen. The unveiling marks a significant expansion of Samsung E&A’s clean-energy technology portfolio.
First 100MW PEM-Based System in the Industry
CompassH2-P is the industry’s first 100MW green hydrogen solution based on proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis, following the AEC-based CompassH2-A introduced earlier this year. The system produces high-purity (99.9995%) hydrogen at high pressure (30 barg), while Samsung E&A’s engineering approach optimizes the placement of the electrolyzer stack and balance of plant to reduce overall plant footprint.
By adding PEM technology to its portfolio, Samsung E&A and Nel Hydrogen can now offer the world’s most efficient alkaline electrolysis solution. They can also provide a PEM system suited for handling fluctuating renewable power inputs. This enables them to deliver customized, project-specific solutions for a wide range of customer needs.
Comprehensive Scope from Design to Performance Guarantee
The CompassH2 suite provides end-to-end project services—from pre-feasibility studies and engineering to full EPC execution and performance guarantees. This wrap guarantee covers the entire system, improving reliability and enhancing overall bankability for hydrogen projects. The approach helps reduce investment risk and accelerates commercial deployment.
Showcasing Broader Clean Energy Partnerships
At ADIPEC 2025, Samsung E&A also presented collaborative projects with global partners in carbon capture and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). These include solutions developed with GIDARA Energy, Johnson Matthey, and Honeywell UOP. The exhibition offered a platform to explore new opportunities, strengthen alliances, and support long-term growth in clean energy markets.
As per the press release, Samsung E&A continues to expand its transition-focused business portfolio, spanning ammonia, SAF, LNG, carbon capture, and bio-based materials. Recent achievements include a low-carbon ammonia plant contract in the U.S. and a SAF plant project in Malaysia. The company also secured agreements for a biodegradable plastics facility in the UAE and LNG project design contracts in Indonesia and North America.
Strengthening a Long-Term Partnership
“The launch of CompassH2-P is an important milestone in the mid- to long-term partnership between Nel Hydrogen and Samsung E&A,” said Hong Namkoong, President and CEO of Samsung E&A. “We plan to fully advance into the global hydrogen market based on our diverse portfolio.” Namkoong added.
