The province is announcing more funding for several new green hydrogen projects.
This comes as part of the second round of funding from the province’s Clean Fuels Fund.
“Nova Scotia is seizing the tremendous opportunities we have to develop and use low-carbon and renewable fuels to power our industries and businesses,” said Energy Minister Trevor Boudreau. “Through the Clean Fuels Fund, we are providing a financial boost to innovators who want to put these fuels to work and help grow our green economy.”
The government says seven projects involving clean fuels innovation will receive a total of $3 million.
According to the province, Innergex is receiving $793,000 to develop a hydrogen production hub in Halifax Regional Municipality.
“We’re grateful for the Government of Nova Scotia’s support and proud to help advance the province’s clean energy ambitions. With support from the Clean Fuels Fund, this will help accelerate regional green hydrogen production, which will drive emissions reductions, support Nova Scotia’s climate targets and create economic opportunities through clean innovation,” said Michel Letellier, president and CEO, Innergex.
Waterford Energy Services Inc. is also receiving $793,000 for a demonstration project to build a small-scale, mobile green hydrogen production facility, and the Municipality of the County of Richmond will receive more than $221,000 to develop a clean fuels strategy for the Strait of Canso.
“We at Waterford are honoured and grateful to receive this funding that allows us to execute our project, which we began nearly two years ago. This project fits into our overall strategy of being a leading energy advisory based in Atlantic Canada. With experience developed from offshore oil and gas projects, we’re now transitioning to renewable energy initiatives such as this green hydrogen project, offshore wind projects and being a key stakeholder in our nation’s renewable energy aspirations,” said Blair MacDougal, president, Waterford Energy Services Inc.
The province says the Clean Fuels Fund is a two-year initiative totaling $6 million.
