A subsidiary of State energy company PT Pertamina, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGEO) has launched its Pilot Project for Green Hydrogen in Ulubelu, Tanggamus Regency, Lampung, which is expected to produce around 100 kilograms of green hydrogen per day.
PGEO President Director Julfi Hadi said the project will serve as a model for developing green hydrogen across the company’s other geothermal working areas.
“This project also lays the foundation for PGEO’s downstream development of green ammonia and green methanol,” Julfi said as quoted in a statement on Friday, September 12, 2025.
He emphasized that PGEO’s long-term roadmap includes advancing green ammonia and green methanol as future energy solutions.
Meanwhile, Pertamina President Director Simon Aloysius Mantiri described the initiative as a milestone for the broader Pertamina Group.
“This project is not only a learning hub for technology but also an important foundation to accelerate the roadmap for an integrated national clean energy ecosystem,” Aloysius said.
At the same time, PGEO continues to expand its geothermal portfolio in Sumatra. The company recently inaugurated the 55-megawatt (MW) Gunung Tiga greenfield geothermal power plant in Lampung, followed by the completion of operations at Lumut Balai Unit 2 (55 MW) in South Sumatra, which is already supplying electricity to the national grid.
Looking ahead, PGEO is conducting a feasibility study for Lumut Balai Unit 3 and exploring potential development for Unit 4.
In addition, PGEO is preparing the Hululais Geothermal Power Plant project in Bengkulu, which is targeted to begin full operations by late 2027 or early 2028.
