In March 2023, the world’s first commercially integrated plant for the production of climate-neutral fuel (e-fuel) was successfully completed with Haru Oni, the first project for international hydrogen projects. The power-to-methanol plant built by Siemens Energy and HIF produces green hydrogen using electricity from wind turbines. This is used in further process steps for the production of synthetic fuel. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) has funded the PtX project, which was launched in the Chilean part of Patagonia at the end of 2020, with around 8.2 million Euros as part of the National Hydrogen Strategy (NWS). Germany has had an energy partnership with Chile since 2019. The cooperation focuses on renewable energies, energy efficiency and green hydrogen.
