MUSCAT, Oman (MNTV) — Oman has announced plans to develop a 400-kilometer pipeline network to transport green hydrogen from production areas to industrial zones and export terminals, officials said this week.
The project is a central pillar of the Sultanate’s strategy to position itself as a global leader in renewable and low-carbon energy, supporting both domestic industrial growth and international energy markets.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the network will connect major hydrogen production zones in Duqm and Salalah with key ports, creating an integrated system for large-scale hydrogen transport.
Officials said the initiative is designed not only to streamline domestic logistics but also to enhance regional energy security and economic integration across the Gulf.
The project will be developed by OQ Gas Networks, which has also outlined plans for dedicated carbon dioxide pipelines to support Oman’s carbon capture, utilization and storage program, a core element of the country’s net-zero emissions target by 2050.
Authorities said the hydrogen pipeline comes as Oman accelerates development of its clean energy portfolio, with seven large-scale hydrogen projects currently underway and a combined production target of around one million tonnes annually by 2030.
The government noted that new regulatory and financing frameworks are being introduced alongside the infrastructure buildout to ensure a structured transition toward clean energy.
Officials said early investment in large-scale hydrogen infrastructure will help Oman secure a leading role in supplying carbon-neutral fuels to regional and global markets.
