NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has taken an important step in advancing India’s renewable energy sector by entering into a Green Ammonia Purchase Agreement. The company announced on March 31, 2026, that its wholly owned subsidiary, NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), has signed this agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI). The agreement was formally signed on March 30, 2026.
This initiative is part of the Government of India’s Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Scheme, which comes under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The move reflects the country’s growing focus on reducing carbon emissions and promoting clean energy solutions in industrial processes.
As per the agreement, NTPC REL will supply 70,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia. SECI will act as the intermediary buyer, while the final supply will be delivered to Krishna Phoschem Limited, located in Meghnagar, Madhya Pradesh. This arrangement will help ensure a stable supply of environmentally friendly ammonia for industrial use.
Green ammonia is considered a cleaner alternative to conventional ammonia, as it is produced using renewable energy instead of fossil fuels. This helps in significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions, especially in sectors like fertilizers and chemicals, where ammonia is widely used.
This agreement marks a key milestone for NGEL as it continues to expand its presence in the green hydrogen and green ammonia segments. It also shows the company’s commitment to supporting India’s transition towards sustainable energy.
The company shared this development with the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE Limited in line with regulatory requirements. Overall, this project highlights how government initiatives and industry partnerships are coming together to strengthen India’s clean energy future.
