Norwegian PEM electrolyser firm HyStar could establish Indian production as it lines up plans to license manufacturing to Indian state-owned engineering firm Bharat Heavy Electrical (BHEL).
The pair said the new collaboration agreement paves the way to supplying the growing Indian market with locally produced systems.
While HyStar deployments remain limited amid slower-than-expected green hydrogen uptake in Europe, it said the agreement positions the firm as a “preferred international technology partner” for BHEL.
The Indian firm also recently tied up with Germany’s Thyssenkrupp Nucera to work on localising alkaline electrolyser module fabrication.
HyStar said it could capitalise on India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) and “Make in India” initiatives, which are driving demand for production capacity.
The NGHM set an annual production target of five million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030 as the country strengthens its position in the sector.
India recently allocated 30,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen production capacity across four state-owned oil companies.
Earlier in the month, the country’s NTPC Green Energy moved forward with plans for a 7GW green hydrogen-based chemicals hub in Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh, tendering for a 10 million litre per day water demineralisation plant to supply it. (Link 2)
Other schemes, including tenders for green steel and iron production and contracts for over 700,000 tonnes of green ammonia, awarded by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), have ramped up activity. (Link 3)
