NLCIL Advances Electrolyser Procurement for Green Hydrogen |

NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) is in the final stages of procuring electrolysers for its 4 MW green hydrogen pilot project at Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, according to Chairman and Managing Director Prasanna Kumar Motupalli.

Aligning with National Green Hydrogen Mission

The pilot project supports the National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to make India a global hub for green hydrogen production and technology. “NLCIL is advancing a 4 MW green hydrogen pilot project at Neyveli, using solar power as the input. It is in an advanced stage of procurement of electrolysers,” Motupalli said.

Production Capacity and Technology

The Neyveli plant will have the capacity to produce 300 kg of hydrogen per day at 99.999% purity. The facility will operate during the day using solar power as the primary energy source. Once commissioned, the project will place NLC India among the early movers in India’s green hydrogen economy, creating a foundation for large-scale adoption in the future.

NLC India’s Broader Energy Strategy

Since its establishment in 1956, NLC India Ltd, a Navratna PSU, has played a critical role in meeting India’s power and mining needs. The company carries out lignite and coal mining and generates thermal and renewable power.

Over the years, NLCIL has diversified into renewable energy and is now pushing into green hydrogen technologies. It supplies electricity to multiple states, including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, and Rajasthan. As reported by thehindubusinessline.com, by 2030, NLC India targets 104.35 million tons per annum mining capacity. It also aims for over 10 GW each of thermal and renewable power capacity, reinforcing its role in India’s clean energy transition.
