New Delhi: NeuEN Green Energy Pvt Ltd has secured a contract to supply 10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually to Numaligarh Refinery Ltd, marking a major step in India’s clean energy transition, PSU Connect reported.
The company, a joint venture between Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd and Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India Pvt Ltd, will set up a dedicated production facility at the refinery site in Assam. The project will operate under a build-own-operate model, with a long-term supply agreement of 25 years. Commercial operations are expected to begin in 2028.
The facility will combine renewable energy with energy storage systems to ensure a steady supply of green hydrogen, supporting the refinery’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
NeuEN won the contract through a competitive bidding process, offering a tariff of ₹279 per kg, one of the lowest prices recorded for green hydrogen in India so far.
Sanjay Khanna, Chairman and Managing Director of BPCL, said the project is an important step in strengthening the company’s clean energy portfolio and expanding its presence in the green hydrogen sector.
Vipul Tuli said the project supports India’s efforts to build a low-carbon energy system and highlighted the role of long-term supply agreements in achieving competitive pricing.
Shelly Abraham said the partnership combines BPCL’s domestic expertise with Sembcorp’s global experience in renewable energy to deliver practical low-carbon solutions.
The project is also seen as a key development for Numaligarh Refinery, which is majority-owned by Oil India Ltd, as it works toward reducing emissions.
The initiative aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and is expected to support the use of clean hydrogen in sectors such as refining, while strengthening the country’s long-term energy security.
