Moeve, the Spanish energy company led by CEO Maarten Wetselaar, hopes to transform itself under its Positive Motion strategy: selling its upstream assets while investing to increase its production of green molecules. The Madrid-based company recently began construction on the first stage of its Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley project set to be Southern Europe’s largest green hydrogen project, at a time when many hydrogen ventures elsewhere are being canceled. Moeve is also in talks with Galp to create European energy and mobility platforms. In a conversation with Energy Intelligence’s Ronan Kavanagh, Wetselaar argues that the Ukraine war and the Hormuz crisis have shifted the energy transition’s driving force from climate concerns to energy security, giving green fuels a new urgency and a more competitive footing against gray hydrogen. An edited transcript of their conversation follows.
