Energy group Moeve and steel company ArcelorMittal have established a joint public-private innovation alliance to accelerate the decarbonization of European heavy industry. Operating under the Green Molecules to Green Steel (G2G) framework, the equal-share partnership will establish a dedicated technological platform aimed at making clean-energy steel production commercially viable.
The platform will combine the research capabilities of both companies to scale the application of green hydrogen, biomethane, biogas, and second-generation biofuels across steelmaking operations.
By combining private capital with public support—including backing from regional innovation agency Sekuens in Asturias, Spain—the initiative will also develop carbon capture technologies, biotechnological solutions, and artificial intelligence models for advanced materials.
Designed as an open innovation hub, the ecosystem will collaborate with universities, technology centers, and start-ups to enhance industrial competitiveness while advancing Europe’s broader energy transition.
