French renewable hydrogen producer Lhyfe has signed a multi-year supply contract with an unnamed operator in the heavy-mobility sector, signalling renewed momentum for hydrogen-powered freight as Europe pushes to decarbonise transport.
Under the agreement, Lhyfe will deliver more than 200 tonnes of RFNBO-certified hydrogen — the EU’s strictest category for renewable hydrogen. The company says the volume is enough to power trucks for over 2.5 million kilometres, avoiding around 1,700 tonnes of CO₂ emissions compared with diesel.
“The decarbonisation of heavy mobility through hydrogen is not an option — it’s a necessity,” said Matthieu Guesné, Lhyfe’s founder and CEO. “While some continue to debate the pros and cons of electric batteries versus hydrogen, we are investing, acting, and making the decarbonisation of freight transport a tangible reality.”
The announcement coincides with the opening of the SOLUTRANS trade fair in Lyon.
