South Korea will receive its first-ever supply of green hydrogen produced from hydropower.
The country’s Ministry of Environment and Korea Water Resources Corp. held a ceremony at the water purification plant in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, on Tuesday to commemorate the shipment of green hydrogen and announced that it would be supplied to hydrogen charging stations.
The green hydrogen production facility at the Seongnam plant is part of a project launched in 2022 to support the expansion of hydrogen-powered vehicles. The facility can produce up to 188 kilograms of green hydrogen per day, or up to 62 tons annually – enough to fuel approximately 40 hydrogen passenger vehicles daily.
The green hydrogen produced will be delivered to hydrogen charging stations in Seongnam using transport vehicles until September 2025 and supplied directly via pipeline to a hydrogen station being built near the Seongnam plant from October onwards.
