ITM Power joins renewables developer to offer H2-as-a-Service

British electrolyser manufacturer ITM Power says its new subsidiary Hydropulse is partnering with renewable energy developer ABO Energy to achieve market traction.

The “strategic partnership” will combine ABO Energy’s contacts to industrial offtakers, international development capabilities and selected pre-developed green hydrogen projects with Hydropulse’s expertise in building and operating modular green hydrogen plants.

Together, they plan to offer Hydrogen-as-a-Service and Infrastructure-as-a-Service across the entire value chain from green electrons to green molecules, Kallanish learns.

Decentralised hydrogen production units will be developed on or near end-user sites, and the joint service will cover permitting, electricity supply, engineering, construction and operation matters. Hydropulse will build, own and operate the hydrogen production facilities, while ABO Energy will contribute on the power and development side, ITM Power explains.

Initially, the focus will be on Spain and Finland, “where low power prices make green hydrogen production attractive,” the company adds. The partners claim to have already identified projects with “imminent demand” for green hydrogen, although further details have not been revealed.

“It’s a breakthrough moment for many hydrogen projects,” says Karsten Schlageter, managing director of ABO Energy. “We can now offer our customers a one-stop solution from development to long-term operation without capex intensity.”

For Denis Schulz, ceo of ITM Power, the partnership is “about market traction,” and creates a “pragmatic route to help industry cut emissions.” The Sheffield-based manufacturer, which posted a 50% growth in revenue in the financial year to 30 April 2025, expects to unlock new markets through the collaboration.
