Commissioning enters its final stages
According to Woodside’s second quarter results, leak testing and cold commissioning have now been completed at the Hydrogen Refueller.
The process of cold commissioning involves testing equipment, control systems and safety processes before hydrogen is introduced into the plant.
Once the testing procedures are completed, Woodside expects the plant to live in the autumn and for the first load of hydrogen to be produced around the same time.
The full H2Perth project isn’t expected for completion until around 2030, though its scale will be far greater than the Hydrogen Refueller alone.
Reports suggest that H2Perth is intended to produce 30,000 tonnes of liquid hydrogen a year for export markets.
The company has already lined up a potential client for this output, signing a conditional offtake agreement with Singaporean asset manager Keppel for use in its data centre portfolio.
