India seeks firms to plan 100,000-tonne green hydrogen hubs

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has launched a call for proposals (CFP) for companies to plan regional green hydrogen hubs producing at least 100,000 tonnes per year.

A new tender under the country’s National Green Hydrogen Mission will select organisations to prepare detailed planning reports (DPRs) that outline business cases for each hub before execution.

SECI has earmarked INR 28 Crore ($2.9m) for the DPRs, capped at INR 2 Crore per state ($313,000).

The DPRs will outline technical, financial, and operational factors of the projects intended for locations near refineries, fertiliser plants, and other end users.

They must identify demand and address foundational infrastructure considerations, including pipelines, renewable energy, grid connections, land, water, and environmental impacts.

Successful applicants will be paid in stages upon project sanctioning, approval, and state acceptance.

It could add to emerging Indian momentum, widely seen as spurred on by its government’s prioritisation of and commitment to the sector.

Respondents in the Hydrogen Council’s recent Global Hydrogen Compass 2026 report identified the country as having the second greatest momentum in the space, globally. Surpassed only by China, 92% of CEOs surveyed perceived India as “steady or accelerating.”

Participants attributed the positive outlook to “assertive state-backed demand signals.”

India recently assigned 30,000 tonnes of green hydrogen production per year to four state-owned oil companies, while SECI has been rolling out tenders for more than 724,000 tonnes of green ammonia.
