India-headquartered hydrogen company Hygenco Green Energies has opened a green ammonia plant in Odisha, India.
The east coast facility, located in Gopalpur Industrial Park – a near 3,000-acre site that is being developed by Tata Steel Special Economic Zone – aims to produce 1.1 million tonnes a year of green ammonia once fully commissioned.
Last year Hygenco selected Denmark-based Topsoe as the licensor for the new plant.
It follows the opening of Hygenco’s commercial megawatt-scale green hydrogen plant in Hisar last year.
Amit Bansal, co-founder and CEO, said the company is setting new benchmarks in India and supporting industrial decarbonisation.
Hygenco aims to develop 10GW of production and distribution assets by 2030, and plans to invest up to $2.5bn in green hydrogen and green ammonia projects.
India is targeting 5 million tonnes of annual green hydrogen production by the same year.
